This indicator is proposed as an indicator for Sustainable Development Target 15.c Enhance global support for efforts to combat poaching and trafficking of protected species, including by increasing the capacity of local communities to pursue sustainable livelihood opportunities


Data & Organisations

  • 1. The records of the legal trade are collected by the CITES Secretariat and are maintained in a database by the UNEP-World Conservation Monitoring Centre, United Kingdom. All CITES Parties are required to report and data availability is good.
  • 2.The wildlife seizure records are being collected by the CITES Secretariat and the World Customs Organization. UNODC has complied these data in a global database which contains over 125,000 seizure incidents at present.
  • 3.Declared values for imported wildlife products. These are collected by national governments and are maintained in the World WISE database by UNODC.
