This indicator is proposed as an indicator for Sustainable Development Target 17.8 Fully operationalize the technology bank and science, technology and innovation capacity-building mechanism for least developed countries by 2017 and enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communications technology

Data & Organisations

  • Data for this indicator are collected from NSOs, through household surveys. Between 2011-2014 official data (collected through a survey) for this indicator exist for 100 countries, for at least one year. For countries that do not collect data for this indicator through official household surveys, ITU estimates the data, based on subscription data. In total, ITU has data on the proportion of individuals using the Internet for 200 economies, and on a yearly basis.
