Data policy is an architectural building block of the EIRA Semantic view supporting the Semantic interoperability layer of the European Interoperability Framework.

A Data policy is a specialisation of Resource (Business Object in EIRA). It is a set of broad, high level principles which form the guiding framework in which data management can operate.

The Data Policy ABB is salient for semantic interoperability because it provides a guiding framework to manage data and information according to interoperability principles as stated in the EIF recommendation #eif30 - Perceive data and information as a public asset: "Perceive data and information as a public asset that should be appropriately generated, collected, managed, shared, protected and preserved."
